I
had been looking for a replacement for my Saxo VTR. On my shopping list was the
Civic Type-R, Seat Leon Cupra-R, Vauxhall Astra GSI, Renault Clio Sport, Golf
GTI etc etc. I can honestly say that a Peugeot 206 GTI 180 was not on the list,
but 5 minutes after seeing one for the first time, I was hooked. I
had looked at maybe 5 or 10 different cars, all with the power but not the toys,
or vice-versa. I found that the 180 had the complete package. | |
 | A
bit about the car and me....where do I start! Me, well I'm a fairly bog standard
bloke, 22 years old and working for a large IT company in Northampton. That's
the boring bit, now for the car! Obviously being the car that it is, it has a
bit of a story. I originally found the car up for sale on eBay as I was trying
to find a 180 that wouldn't take months to be delivered. I didn't bid originally
as I couldn't finance it in time, so it was eventually sold to to someone else,
who turned out to be a non-paying bidder, which was lucky for me!!. So, a week
later and there she was again, only this time at £1k less than the original
asking price. I couldn't believe my luck! |
| I contacted the seller
to enquire about the car. It turns out that he had won the car at a Peugeot driving
competition but couldn't afford to keep it. It had never been driven and was sitting
in a Peugeot garage in Edinburgh. To put the cherry on the cake, I discovered
that its first recorded keeper was Richard Burnsm and the V5 log book was in his
name and the car had his signature on the rocker cover. This car had been featured
in Autocar, RallyXS, F1 Racing, Autotrader magazines, plus some more I can't remember.
I offered him £1K
more than the initial asking price to secure me the car and remove it from the
eBay auction. This was still £2K less than the Peugeot dealer price!! He
thankfully accepted my offer despite continued competition from other potential
buyers. | |

So, that was that and the deal was
done. On October 24th I boarded an Easyjet flight to Edinburgh (its a long way
from Northampton!) to pick up my future pride and joy. An hour later and there
she was, sitting in the showroom. I had been trying to get one of these baby's
for 3 months, and I had jumped the queue. The
7-hour drive back to Northampton was a real treat. I remember pulling into a service
station along the way (thirsty motor innit?!?!), and a minibus full of lads stopped
in the middle of the car park to stare as I pulled in, that was a very satisfying
moment I can tell you | Author:
